Carolyn Wells is a co-founder and for many years the Executive Director of
the Kansas City Barbeque Society (world’s largest organization of barbecue
enthusiasts). She has won over 150 awards in barbecue cooking contests. Through
that love of barbecue and countless hours around the smoker/grill, she has
developed into an accomplished and innovative pit master. She is a member of the
KCBS “Hall of Flame”, and has earned her Ph.B. (doctor of Barbecue Philosophy).
She is author of Barbecue Greats – Memphis Style and Barbecue, Barbeque,
Bar-B-Q, B-B-Q, and was chief essayist for The Kansas City Barbeque Society
Cookbook, a national award winner in the Tabasco Community Cookbook Awards, and
inductee in the Walter S. McIIhenny Hall of Fame.
A self-described “foodie”, Carolyn promotes barbecue in other food related
organizations: International Association of Culinary Professionals (I.A.C.P.),
Southern Foodways Alliance, Slow Food, National Barbecue Association, American
Institute of Wine & Food, World Barbecue Association, and Les Dames de
Escoffier. She serves on the board of the Great American Barbecue Contests.
